The apartment is located in the very middle of Budapest downtown. When you step out of the house you find yourself among the most popular restaurants, coffee shops, pubs and clubs. Most sigths are also in walking distance. If you want to discover the city it is the best place to start.
When you turn right:
In 5-15 minutes walk you can reach the hipster district eg. Király Street, Gozsdu udvar (famous for ruin pubs, eateries, groceries and wine bars), Erzsébet square (youngsters favourite meeting point - Hop on Hop off departure, home of the Budapest Eye), Deák Ferenc square (center of public transportation: all metro lines, buses, trams), the famous Váci street and Fashion street with the most popular brands and shops and if you visit our beloved city in winter, you can get lost in the Christmas markets at the Basilica and Vörösmarty square.
When you turn left:
Turning right on the first corner you get the view of St.Stephen's Basilica and some of the best wine bars in Budapest. At the end of the street you will get to Freedom square (it is the middle of the diplomat district with a lot of embassies and governmental institutions - like the Parliament).
When you start ahead:
Our wonderful "avenue" Andrássy street (which connects Deák square and Hero's square) starts in the neighbourhood, it is the center of culture, art and theatres: The Opera House, The Ballet Institution, Music Academy, Pest's Broadway (lot of theathers in Nagymező utca) etc.
When you start to the riverside:
River Danube is only steps away, along the riverside you can find our masterpiece of architecture the Hungarian Parliament, the fanciest hotels. Our most beautiful bridge, the Chain bridge is also, just 500m-s from the flat.
On the other side of the bridge you can go up to Buda Castle ( Mathias churh, Fishermen's Bastion etc.) by taking the Buda Castle Hill Funicular, when finished you can walk down from the castle to the newly renovated Castle Garden Bazár (Várkert Bazár) which gives an amazing view.
From the airport we can arrange you a transfer (20 euros to 4 people, for more passangers prior arrangement needed).
As for downtown the best way to discover the city is to put your most comfortable shoes on and start walking :)
If you dont want to get your legs hurt you can use public transportation (or Hop on Hop off) as it is really excellent and easy to use. There are several tourist tickets you can choose from.
Renting a car could ruin your stay, there are a lot of traffic jams during weekdays, and parking is very expensive (440Ft/hours with a 3 hours maximum, from 8am-8pm on weekdays, weekends are free), and there are a lot of restricted areas. You also have the opportunity to leave the car in a garage (daily fares are about (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)Ft /day).
If you want to see the city from an other perspective you should definately try one of the river cruises (they have a very colourfull paletta, with dinner cruises, music nights etc.) and the city looks just amazing by night ;)
